Cat Who Interrupted Wedding Ceremony Finds Forever Home With Newlyweds

When planning their wedding in 2023, Cara and Matt envisioned all their closest friends and family there to celebrate with them. But it was only once the ceremony began that they realized there was one unexpected guest present, who would later become part of the family.

The couple, from New York City, got married on September 15, 2023, but during the outdoor ceremony, the uninvited guests made themselves known. Members of the bridal party and the groomsmen started laughing when they heard loud meowing coming from behind the altar, and soon enough Cara, 30, had to ask them what was going on.

Cara, who doesn’t wish to disclose her full name, told Newsweek that “it felt like such a sign” that the cat appeared at her wedding, and she knew “this was all meant to be.” As soon as she was told that they had an extra guest in attendance, Cara spotted the cat “perched on a tree stump” with a perfect view of the event.

“Neither Matt nor I heard the cat meowing during the ceremony as we were so focused on each other, but we did hear others laughing,” Cara said. “I could maybe ignore the laughter, but then one of the groomsmen stuck his head out of line and gave everyone a grin, so I had to find out.

“My sister, the maid of honor behind me, kindly let us know that there was a cat, and after we acknowledged her, she quietened down for the rest of the ceremony.”

The newlyweds were desperate to meet the four-legged guest who crashed the wedding, so after the ceremony they tried their hardest to find the cat, but were unsuccessful. Fortunately for them, the venue didn’t give up and continued trying to catch the cat.

Cara continued: “The venue was able to lure her in by feeding her leftover shrimp from the weddings they had. They caught her almost two weeks after our wedding. They knew we wanted her, so they let us know right away that they had her and were taking her to a shelter to get cleaned up.

“We worked with the shelter to adopt her. The vet believes she was about 2 months when she came to our wedding, and we got to take her home two months after that.”

The cat has since been named Daisy, and she’s loving her new life alongside her feline brother, Gatsby. She’s an affectionate cat, and now it seems that Cara is never alone because Daisy likes to be by her side at all times, and even curls up inside her sweater while she works.

Explaining how Daisy came into their lives unexpectedly, Cara shared a video on TikTok (@gatsby.and.daisy) to reveal the unusual adoption story. Layered over the video, Cara wrote: “What I didn’t know before getting married, that I was not just marrying my best friend, but gaining one too.”

The video was only posted on March 2, but it’s already gone viral with over 1.5 million views and 235,900 likes on TikTok.

How to tell Newsweek: “I had no idea our wedding video would blow up like it did. Everyone has been so kind and sweet. It’s been wonderful seeing how much everyone loves our adoption story as much as we do.”

Many TikTok users shared their amazement about how Daisy came into their lives. One comment reads: “The universe says wedding gift!”

Another person said: “The cat distribution system is so magical I just love this story so much!”

While another TikToker wrote: “You found 2 soul mates that day.”
